Which AP Physics course is yours?

There are four AP Physics courses, each with its own exam. The name of your class tells you which one you take.

AP Physics 1

Algebra-based. Units 1–8:

  1. 1 Kinematics
  2. 2 Force and Translational Dynamics
  3. 3 Work, Energy, and Power
  4. 4 Linear Momentum
  5. 5 Torque and Rotational Dynamics
  6. 6 Energy and Momentum of Rotating Systems
  7. 7 Oscillations
  8. 8 Fluids

AP Physics 2

Algebra-based. Units 9–15:

  1. 9 Thermodynamics
  2. 10 Electric Force, Field, and Potential
  3. 11 Electric Circuits
  4. 12 Magnetism and Electromagnetism
  5. 13 Geometric Optics
  6. 14 Waves, Sound, and Physical Optics
  7. 15 Modern Physics

AP Physics C: Mechanics

Calculus-based. Units 1–7:

  1. 1 Kinematics
  2. 2 Force and Translational Dynamics
  3. 3 Work, Energy, and Power
  4. 4 Linear Momentum
  5. 5 Torque and Rotational Dynamics
  6. 6 Energy and Momentum of Rotating Systems
  7. 7 Oscillations

AP Physics C: Electricity and Magnetism

Calculus-based. Units 8–13:

  1. 8 Electric Charges, Fields, and Gauss’s Law
  2. 9 Electric Potential
  3. 10 Conductors and Capacitors
  4. 11 Electric Circuits
  5. 12 Magnetic Fields and Electromagnetism
  6. 13 Electromagnetic Induction

Units 1–7 of AP Physics 1 and AP Physics C: Mechanics cover the same areas of mechanics. Physics 1 uses algebra and adds a unit on fluids; Physics C uses calculus.
